    Pre-planted mats

Pre-planted mats are a vegetated structure with mature native wetland plants to be rapidly established and provide an instant solution. The structure is made of a coconut net (5x1 m) with a density plantation of 20 plants/m2.

They are an excellent solution to stablish native wetland plants on floating wetlands and the species selection (link to vegetation with species description) will depend on the function that we want to give to them.

    Xylit

Xylit fiber is a newly discovered old material that is obtained as a product of lignite production from natural aside product of mining. Due to its many positive properties such as high elasticity, stability and high internal porosity these fibers are already used as a substitute for peat and coconut fibers for soil and water improvement.

The main effects of Xylit on aquatic ecosystems are:

    • Clear water with visibility to the bottom of the water

    • Prevention of unpleasant water odors

    • Water purification effect

    Coir husk

Coir husk chips are manufactured from the fibrous husk that surrounds the coconut. It has a huge surface and provides a habitat for various microorganisms. We have also the experience that the roots develop better.

    Eco-Raster

Structural body consists of a stable 3-dimensional sytem.

Each unit has a standard size of 2.0 x 1.0 m with a thickness including buoyancy elements of about 11 cm and can be combined as desired. The connection is made with high-strength tapes.

    Material compounds

As we can see in the figure above, more than the half of the material is organic and the rest is mainly the polyethilene grid (Eco-Raster) which does not harm the environment.

    Implementation:

AquaFlora Floating Wetlands are easy to install on lakes or at the margins of streams. Thanks to a modular system, they are movable, and their implementation does not require any means of handling or lifting. The semi-rigid modules can be easily assembled on the bank near the floating island installation site and it is normally necessary to use a small boat to install them.

Once a certain area is assembled, it will be covered with pre-planted coconut mats (link to pre-planted mats description). When this green cover of helophytes is unrolled, it will be fixed to the Eco-Raster supporting structure (link to eco-raster description). Each floating wetland will be anchored to the bottom of the water by slings. The length of the slings will depen on the depth of the place, the variations of water height and the amplitude of the waves. These slings will be attached to an anchor with stones and placed at the bottom.

ESWEG group will give you a costumized solution to your project selecting the most suitable plants for the floating wetlands and the measuraments of them.

    Glass rocks

This cellular glass is ten times lighter than soil materials which allows a perfect buoyancy of the wetland. It relies on 100% recycled products and therefore involves no exploitation. Due to the high volume in the base of the wetland, there is a dense root system which favours the growing of the vegetation.

Moreover, thanks to its large surface, this material is perfect for taking place microbiological processes to improve the water quality.

    Xylit

Xylit fiber is a newly discovered old material that is obtained as a product of lignite production from coal industries. Due to its many positive properties such as high elasticity, stability and high internal porosity these fibers are already used as a substitute for peat and coconut fibers for soil and water improvement.

    Coconut fiber:

The coconut fiber will provide their main function during the first period of the wetland to hold the glass rocks and the xylit until the wetland vegetation have grown enough to be stable. This material is 100% organic and within the years it will degredate without harming the environment.

    Boxes:

The stainless grid is the element that gives shape to the wetland. It retains the glass rocks once the coconut fiber is degradated and do not harm the environment by releasing substance thanks to its stability.

    Others floating systems

For specific applications, we can offer other solutions. Our 25 years of experience have shown us to avoid floating elements made of wood, expanded polystyrene and tubes (aluminium, steel, PVC or PE (Polyethylene)) because the durability is not satisfactory.

    Radepur®3D

Use: Big surface for microorganism and impact. Possibility of big pots plants (9 cm diameter) installation.

Three-dimensional structure in entangled polypropylene filaments associated with a floating low density polyethylene carrier structure.

This floating island of great thickness allows the planting of large potted plants. The structure favors the rapid development of bacteria.

    Eco floating island light

Use: Basin with low wind impact and medium height waves.

Polyethylene floating mat perforated for the pass of certain roots while promoting the renewal of plants. Invisible structure, flush with the water level. Not affected by wind. Aesthetics aspects enhancing the vegetation cover.

This floating wetland is very flexible and light these structures are more competitive and can be install even temporarily.

    Floating garden.

Use: For original garden near the water level.

Floating structure above the water level, like a boat, and therefore visible. Reinforced floatation for walking on it.

This floating garden allows the planting of species having nothing to do with the typical environment of the margins of lakes and rivers.

    Phragmites floating system.

Use: Organic floating system. Big surface for microorganism and impact.

Without any plastic. Mattresses of Phragmites kept in a stainless steel mesh envelope.

    Sterna Gravel Island.

Use: The Island is covered with gravel to provide as a resting and nesting area for some migratory species including the Arctic Plovers and Terns (which nest on the ground).

Semi-rigid articulated floating structure made of low density polyethylene combined with extruded polystyrene floats. Buoyancy increased. Cover by gravel. Floating island that can be raised above the level of the water and can be equipped with side boards to maintain gravel and nestin.

    Complementary products

Pour rendre nos iles flottantes encore plus performantes et efficaces, elles peuvent être parfois complétées par des accessoires ou options telles que clôtures, refuges, ancrage, support bactérien additionnel, etc..

To prevent the pass and nesting of ducks, coots and swans, provide on the perimeter a metal fence 50x100 mm 20 to 40 cm high. In case of strong presence of cormorants, to make a perfect place for fishes, we must add on the underside, on the perimeter, a synthetic skirt weighted in foot.
