Problems
Cities and towns are investing on flood protections. Normally, they resort to hard engineering such as concrete walls to tackle this problems. The result of this is that we become increasingly disconnected from the water environment. The town of Oder, Frankfurt, had constructed a wall of 2 km with a high wave impact.
Solutions
300 m2 of floating riverbank with AquaFlora Floating Wetlands was constructed to provide additional wave protection.
The intention of this work was to reduce the wave impact by protecting the shoreline with a high density mass of vegetation and also to improve the aesthetics aspects of the area with the selection of specific flowering plants.
Results
Over the time, the wave impact has been reduced to minimum levels and the area has been settled as an important point of interest for the citizens of the region.
