Floating sedimentation solution

INSTALLATION OF FLOATING ECOSYSTEMS IN WEHRDEICH POND

  • Date: 2012

  • Client: Bergedorf Town Council

  • Location: Bergedorf, Hamburg (Germany)

Problems

The inlet of the lake needed to be protected due to avoid sedimentation problems in all the lake. Moreover, the fauna of the area did not have habitats to nest, breed and refugee.

Solutions

Installation of 150 m2 AquaFlora Floating Wetlands in a crescent form to retain the sediments of the inlet of the lake and therefore avoid sedimentation problems. They were not built with a square form, as we normally do, to tackle better the mentioned problem.

Results

The vegetation has developed very well and have create a high density mass of vegetation in the middle of the lake providing a perfect place for fauna.

The sediments are effectively enclosed thanks to the form of the floating wetland.

Over the time, trees have grown and they have to be removed individually, otherwise they would affect negatively to the native wetland vegetation giving shadow to them.
