Naturalizing urban parks

INSTALLATION OF FLOATING WETLANDS IN CAN ZAM PARK

  • Date: 2019

  • Client: Metropolitan Area of Barcelona

  • Location: Santa Coloma de Gramanet, Barcelona (Spain)

One of the most attractive places of Santa Coloma de Gramanet is the Can Zam park. To naturalize this urban park, floating vegetated wetlands were installed in the middle of a pond. Initially, the works carried out in the Can Zam park consisted only in the implementation of one AquaFlora Floating Wetland module in the middle of the pond. Due to the success of it, two more modules were installed to provide more habitats for the fauna.

Problems

  • Lack of naturalisation of the park.
  • Lack of refugees for the species of the area.
  • Purification of the water from the area.
  • Concrete structure in the surroundings.

Solutions

Installation of 200 m2 floating vegetated wetlands to favour the naturalisation of the area and reduce the landscape impact of the concrete structure.

Results

The installation of AquaFlora Floating Wetlands have naturalized the park providing new habitats for the fauna of the area, more heterogeneity of the biodiversity and contributing to avoid future eutrophication processes.
